Installing 952 cartridge in 8710 and no working. I have two new inks (952 and 952xl) and no good results.

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Check Cartridge Numbers: Make sure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with the HP OfficeJet 8710. For this model, both the 952 and 952XL cartridges are compatible, but you should ensure you are using the correct type for the corresponding slots.

2. Inspect and Install Cartridges Correctly

  • Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open Cartridge Access Door: Open the front door or cartridge access door to reveal the cartridge slots.
  • Remove Old Cartridges: If there are any old or incompatible cartridges, remove them carefully.
  • Install New Cartridges:
    • Ensure Proper Orientation: The cartridges should be inserted with the correct orientation. The color cartridge should go in the color slot, and the black cartridge should go in the black slot.
    • Push Firmly: Insert the cartridges until they click into place.
    • Close the Door: Close the cartridge access door securely.

3. Check for Protective Tape

  • Remove Tape: New ink cartridges often come with protective tape or plastic covers on the contact points. Ensure that you have removed all protective tape or plastic from the cartridge before installation.

4. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Clean Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or ink residue can prevent proper contact between the cartridge and the printer:
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the metal contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot.
    • Avoid touching the ink nozzles directly.

5. Update Printer Firmware:

  • HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app or HP Printer Software on your computer to check for any available firmware updates for your printer.
  • Printer’s Web Interface: If your printer is connected to a network, you can access its web interface to check for and install firmware updates.

6. Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Access the printer’s control panel, and look for a diagnostics or troubleshooting option.
  • Run any available diagnostic tests to identify issues with the cartridges or printer functions.

7. Reset Printer:

  • Power Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
