I just set up a new printer and received a 6 month free Instant Ink offer.  I followed the directions to get this offer.  I can get as far as entering shipping information.  I hit "save" and always get a "server error" message.  I have tried from iPhone and my MacBook.  Is there a solution to getting this offer?  (I received a card in my box with the printer the also shows the offer, when I set up the printer through the HP Smart app it shows this offer).   I can't get past putting in my shipping info even though everything shows I have this offer.  There is one spot that asks for a PIN number for this offer that can be found on the flyer in with my printer but there is no PIN number there that I can find.

I had already done those steps.  Then I signed into my HP+ account.  It eventually asked for the PIN number for my printer so I put that in.  Then it got to the page showing that my new printer is eligible for a free 6 months of Instant Ink.  It asks for shipping information so I put in my name and address.  I hit next and I ALWAYS get the message "Server Error Try Again Soon".  It does not work.  The printer is already set up and registered but I cannot get the 6 months free offer.

I DO NOT have a printer enrolled in Instant Ink.  After TWO hours of chatting with the AI garbage and 4 different people with heavy accents, I think the problem is when I set up HP Smart I registered as a business account EVEN THOUGH I hit the "button" for a personal account.  I don't know how the happened.  I need my account to show that it is a personal account.  I AM NOT a business.  I was going to accept the 6 months free trial of Instant Ink which had to be done within a week of setting up the printer and it is too late for that now.  This has been a ridiculous experience simply because I was not able to speak to anyone that could understand me or that I could understand.  I had decided to ditch this printer and go with a completely different company.  HP has been terrible to try to work with.  Today I thought I would look again.  Now, when I open the HP Smart app it can't do anything because my screen tells me to "enable local network permissions to use the printer" which I admit I don't really know how to do and there are no clear instructions.  I appreciate your response but I think this is a lost cause at this point.  I have never had trouble like this with a printer in the past and I have had HP printers.   At one time, I had Instant Ink but didn't use it enough to justify paying monthly when I was printing much.  Now I need a printer to use and would try Instant Ink again but this has gotten completely ridiculous.  I don't know if it's because when registering for HP Smart I ended up with a business account or not.  I don't know what the solution is and cannot seem to get help determining that.  Thank you

I have also done a little further investigation about this "free trial" offer and turns it out shows up as a scam online.  Therefore, I will report this scam and move on.

@shoney58, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you so much for posting your query! My colleague @Max3Aj is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

I’m here to help, and together, we’ll work through this!

Switch Your HP Account from Business to Personal

This is likely blocking the offer. Here’s how to check and fix it:

Visit: HP Account Settings

Log in with the same account you used in the HP Smart app.

Go to Account Settings or My Profile.

Look for any "Account Type" setting and confirm if it says Business.

If yes, try to switch it to Personal. If there’s no toggle, you may need to create a new HP account using a personal email and set it as "Personal" from the start.

Re-register your printer under this personal account.

Fix the “Local Network Permissions” Message

This is an iOS/MacOS setting that allows the HP Smart app to find and use the printer.

On iPhone/iPad:

Go to Settings > HP Smart.

Toggle Local Network to ON.

Also make sure Bluetooth is enabled.

On Mac:

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.

Make sure HP Smart is allowed.

Then restart the HP Smart app.

Instant Ink Offer Redemption

Once the above is resolved:

Open HP Smart > Tap “Instant Ink” > Sign in.

You may now be able to continue setup without the “server error.”

If it asks for a PIN, and the flyer has none, don't worry — some offers are automatically tied to the printer’s serial number and don’t require a PIN.

I truly hope these steps help get things back on track. If you have any questions or need any further clarification, just let me know – I’m happy to guide you through it and make sure everything works perfectly.

Take care, and I hope you have an amazing day ahead! 😊

Problem solved? 🎉 That’s fantastic! If you could mark this as the Accepted Solution, it would help others find their way here faster. And if you found this helpful, a simple ‘yes’ would mean a lot – it makes my day and gives this reply a little street cred! 🏅
