i use hp pro m404dn and i need to replace the empty cartridge.
i'm thinking of buying a compatible non-chip toner cartridge.
I searched internet and found a procedure that implies taking the chip off the empty original toner and install it to the new compatible.
But before i purchase i need to make sure that there is nothing illegal with that procedure.
And that the mentioned procedure is not considered a hack to HP copyright.
Thanks,

Toner chips store toner data, if you remove the chip from an empty cartridge and place it on a new cartridge the printer will read data from the chip and report that the toner is empty.
Those chips are glued in such a way that it's very hard to get them off, it breaks easily. It would be easier to get a compatible toner cartridge with a chip rather than risking breaking the chip or even an injury.
