Hi @JAMIEDEB1972,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It’s incredibly frustrating when your OfficeJet 8610 prints beautiful images only to mar them with vertical streaks. You're absolutely right to expect crisp results on regular paper. Let's dig a little deeper with some targeted troubleshooting:

1. Confirm Genuine HP Cartridges

Use only original HP 950/951 cartridges. Third-party or refilled carts often cause streaking and print defects.

2. Power-Cycle the Printer

A fresh restart can recalibrate internal systems that assist in print quality:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power for 60 seconds.
  2. Plug directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and power on.

3. Perform a Deep Print-Head Clean

The default cleaning cycle may not fully address significant clogs. Try this:

  • On the printer: Setup → Tools → Clean Printheads, run all stages even if you've done it before.
  • Or on PC: via HP Toolbox (Windows) or HP Utility (Mac) → Clean Printheads.

4. Run a Nozzle Check

Print a diagnostic page from the control panel or software to view nozzle performance.
If missing lines or streaks appear on the test, repeat the cleaning until the pattern is perfect.
(This helps determine whether it's a printhead issue or something else.)

5. Update Firmware & Drivers

Outdated firmware can contribute to print inconsistencies.

  • Go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update to get the latest firmware.
  • Ensure you're printing with “Best” quality, plain paper settings.

6. Check Paper & Settings

  • Ensure paper is flat, dry, and inserted correctly, smooth/print side down.
  • Use high-quality plain paper.
  • In print settings, choose Plain paper and Normal or Best quality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
