Hi @geotimber,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To move the print heads to the center on an HP Smart Tank 5101 printer, follow these steps.

  • Turn on the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered on. If it's off, press the power button to turn it on.
  • Open the Printer's Access Door: Lift or open the access door to the print cartridges. This is usually the front door of the printer.
  • Wait for the Print Carriage to Stop Moving: The print carriage should move to the center automatically when you open the door. Wait until the carriage is idle and stops moving.
  • Manually Move the Print Carriage (if needed): If the print carriage does not move to the center, gently push it towards the center of the printer manually. Be careful not to use excessive force.
  • Close the Access Door: Once the print carriage is in the center position, close the access door securely.
  • Wait for Printer to Initialize: The printer may need a few moments to recognize the print heads' position and perform a self-check. Wait until it completes the initialization process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
