HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

The screen message is that there is a problem with the supply system.  However, we are using the same number on the cartridge as always, which is new.  We have two of these new cartridges with the HP logo and the warranty number F6UI9A and they are under warranty until next April..  We have gone through every possible suggestion on the HP site with the virtual assistant walking us through everything that might help with NO HELP.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Trans-Pacific ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already gone through all the suggested steps on HP's website and the issue persists, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Ensure Proper Cartridge Installation

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer's cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for protective tape or debris on the copper contacts or nozzles and remove it if present.
  • Wipe the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
  • Close the access door, plug in the printer, and turn it on.

2. Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts How to Clean Printer Heads: A Guide to Better Ink Efficiency

  • In addition to cleaning the cartridge contacts, also clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer where the cartridges connect.
  • Use the same lint-free cloth and distilled water.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer while it's on.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.

4. Use a Different Cartridge

  • Even though your cartridges are genuine and under warranty, try using a different set of cartridges if available. There could be a manufacturing defect in the cartridges you have.

5. Update or Reinstall Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if the printer's firmware is up to date.
  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

6. Disable Cartridge Protection

  • Go to the printer settings on your computer using the HP Smart app or the printer’s embedded web server (EWS).
  • Look for the "Cartridge Protection" option and disable it. Sometimes, this feature can cause issues with even genuine cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
