Hi @GTF63,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer is experiencing alignment issues, causing the text to be misaligned and partially cut off.

Here are some steps to help resolve this problem:

1. Check Print Settings

  • Paper Size and Type: Ensure the print settings on your macOS are set to the correct paper size and type. Mismatched settings can cause alignment issues.
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > select your printer > Options & Supplies > Utility > Open Printer Utility > check the paper settings.

2. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. You can usually find updates on the HP support website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers compatible with macOS 12.0 Monterey. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

3. Run the Printer’s Built-in Diagnostic Tools

  • Print Quality Diagnostic Report: Print a diagnostic report from the printer’s control panel to check for any hardware issues. The report can provide insight into alignment or hardware problems.
    • Go to your printer’s menu > Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • Print Head Alignment: Even though you've already run the alignment scan, try performing it again, ensuring the page is placed correctly on the scanner glass.
    • Go to your printer’s menu > Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.

4. Clean the Printhead

  • If the alignment report suggests cleaning the printhead, perform the cleaning process.
    • Go to your printer’s menu > Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead. Follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Check the Printer for Obstructions

  • Sometimes, debris or a small paper piece can obstruct the printhead movement, leading to misaligned printing.
    • Open the printer and visually inspect for any obstructions. Ensure the carriage moves freely without any blockage.

6. Use a Different Print Application

  • Try printing from a different application to see if the issue is specific to one app.
    • For example, print a document using Preview instead of Microsoft Word or vice versa.

7. Reset the Printer

  • A reset can sometimes fix persistent alignment issues.
    • Unplug the printer while it is on, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.

8. Try Printing from Another Computer

  • If possible, try printing the same document from a different computer to determine if the issue is with your Mac or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
