Hi @Rickiehw,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank Plus 651 is not printing blue despite the ink being full, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check for Clogged Printhead
- Sometimes, ink can dry in the printhead, especially if the printer hasn’t been used in a while. You can run a printhead cleaning cycle through your printer's settings:
- Open the HP Smart App.
- Go to Printer Settings.
- Select Tools or Maintenance and then choose Clean Printhead.
2. Print a Diagnostic Report
- Print a diagnostic page to see if blue ink (cyan) is missing from test patterns:
- Go to your printer’s control panel or use the HP Smart App.
- Navigate to Tools or Reports and select Print Quality Report.
- Check the printout for missing colors or streaks.
3. Check Ink Levels
- Although the ink tank might appear full, the printer could have trouble detecting the ink levels accurately.
- Confirm in the HP Smart App or through your printer’s control panel that the cyan ink level is full.
4. Reseat the Ink Cartridge
- Try removing and reinserting the cyan ink cartridge to ensure it is seated properly.
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, and then open the ink compartment.
- Carefully remove the cyan ink cartridge, check for any damage, and reinsert it securely.
5. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, firmware updates resolve printing issues:
- Go to the HP Support website and check for any available updates for your printer model.
6. Print from Different Applications
- Try printing from different applications to see if the issue persists, in case it’s an app-specific issue.
7. Perform a Factory Reset
- If none of the above steps work, you may consider doing a factory reset on your printer to resolve any internal settings issues. Be sure to back up any settings or preferences before resetting.
