Hi @dgm99,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing compatibility issues with the replacement cartridge for your HP Officejet 4500 printer.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Confirm Cartridge Compatibility: Double-check that the 60XL cartridge is indeed compatible with your HP Officejet 4500 printer model. Sometimes, using cartridges that are not specifically designed for your printer model can cause issues.
  • Clean Contacts: Ensure that the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer are clean and free of any dust or debris. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the contacts.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve cartridge recognition issues.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet 4500 printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting your printer to its default settings. Instructions for resetting your printer can usually be found in the printer's user manual or on the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
