Hi @cptgoody,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer (B210a) is not printing black and the alignment of print heads has failed, you can try several troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Here are some suggestions.
Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge has enough ink. You can check the ink levels through the printer software on your computer or directly on the printer's control panel.
Clean the Printhead: Use the printer's built-in printhead cleaning utility to clean the printhead. This can help remove any dried or clogged ink that may be affecting the print quality.
- On the printer control panel, touch the Setup icon (gear symbol).
- Select Tools and then select Clean Printhead.
Manually Clean the Printhead: If the automatic printhead cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, you can manually clean the printhead. Keep in mind that this method may vary slightly depending on your printer model, so refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions.
- Remove the black ink cartridge.
- Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
- Gently wipe the printhead to remove any dried ink.
- Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinserting the ink cartridge.
Align the Printheads Again: Since the alignment process failed, try aligning the printheads again. Follow the on-screen instructions or refer to your printer manual for detailed steps.
Update Printer Firmware/Software: Make sure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Check the official HP website for any available updates for your printer model.
Replace or Reinstall the Black Ink Cartridge: If the black ink cartridge is old or damaged, consider replacing it with a new one. Ensure that you use a genuine HP ink cartridge. Alternatively, you can try reinstalling the existing cartridge to ensure it is properly seated.
Perform a Printer Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor glitches.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
