Hi @leighann33,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 4512 is showing that a new ink cartridge is empty and giving an error message, you can try these steps.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure the cartridge is properly seated in its slot. Sometimes, removing and reinserting the cartridge can resolve the issue.
Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and carefully remove the cartridge.
- Reinstall the cartridge and ensure it clicks into place.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Sometimes, dirt or residue on the contacts can cause errors. Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a soft, lint-free cloth.
Check for Packaging Materials:
- Make sure that any protective tape or packaging material was removed from the cartridge before installation.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes updates can resolve cartridge-related issues.
Replace the Cartridge:
- If the issue persists, try replacing the cartridge with a new one, as the new cartridge may be defective.
Check Printer Compatibility:
- Ensure you are using the correct cartridge model for your HP ENVY 4512.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
