Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I tried testing my printer and some parts of printout did not come out nicely. I tried the Print-quality troubleshooting page bands and below is the printout. Can somebody help me interpret this? Can I still fix my printer?

Thank you

Hi @Jikai,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw is experiencing print quality issues, which could be caused by several factors. The fact that you're seeing bands on the Print Quality Troubleshooting Page suggests that there may be an issue with the toner cartridges, printheads, or transfer mechanism.

Here are some common reasons for print quality problems and potential solutions:

1. Toner Cartridge Issues

  • Cause: If the toner cartridge is low or faulty, it may cause streaks, bands, or faded printouts.
  • Solution: Remove the toner cartridges and check for any visible damage or leaks. If any of the cartridges are nearly empty or damaged, consider replacing them with new, genuine HP cartridges.

2. Toner Density and Fuser Unit

  • Cause: The fuser unit may not be properly heating or fixing the toner to the paper, or the toner density may need adjustment.
  • Solution: Check the fuser unit for wear or contamination. You may also try adjusting the toner density settings in the printer's control panel or driver settings.

3. Transfer Roller Issues

  • Cause: The transfer roller could be dirty or worn out, which can cause uneven distribution of toner on the page.
  • Solution: Clean the transfer roller carefully with a lint-free cloth. If it's worn out, it may need replacement.

4. Calibration

  • Cause: Misalignment in the printer's color calibration could result in uneven or poor-quality printouts.
  • Solution: Go to the printer's menu and run a calibration routine. This will help the printer realign the colors and potentially resolve banding issues.

5. Humidity and Environmental Factors

  • Cause: If the printer is located in a humid or dusty environment, it may affect print quality.
  • Solution: Ensure the printer is in a clean, dry environment and away from direct sunlight or moisture.

Next Steps:

If you're comfortable, you can try:

  1. Replacing the toner cartridges if they appear to be at fault.
  2. Running the printer's calibration routine to see if that resolves the issue.
  3. Checking the fuser unit for wear and cleaning the transfer roller.
