Sandy, I am having the exact same issue.  I have a laserjet so my cartridge looks like none of the four options.  I am using a genuine HP laserjet cartridge and it's still blocked.  I am thinking I need a printer update and need to be connected to HP support.  CAn you assist?

Hi there

I had to figure this out on my own from other messages on here vs getting any actual help from HP,  but I downloaded this driver and it fixed the problem.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M280-M281 Multifunction Printer series Firmware Update Utility

This isn't a link so just google it, and if this isn't your model then go to the drivers and downloads section on HP and find yours.  This was just uploaded on 12/15/22 so looks pretty clearly to be a response to this issue, although why there aren't more answers about it makes no sense to me.  Anyway after 2 hours of searching for a way to call or trying to troubleshoot, this was the answer!

I am having the same problem. The QR on the toner validates through HPs service. It is an HP chip toner cartridge - the high yield black 202x. I am still getting the error message for a non-HP chip. Please help.

Hi @ktvalecourt

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing cartridge issues with HP printer.

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it is not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Treeko. I did not order a refill or remanufactured cartridge. It is an HP manufactured 202x cartridge. It verifies with HP by QR code. Please provide further assistance.IMG_0766.jpegIMG_0765.pngIMG_0764.jpegIMG_0763.jpeg

@treeko - Please see my previous  reply. I have tried multiple manufacturers and the current toner product is a verified HP cartridge. Please assist.

The algorithm used by HP to determine non-HP is very complex, I suspect the vendor sent you an old or defective cartridge. Suggest you call or write the vendor to get a replacement.

I bought a cartridge at Office Depot that appeared to be original HP and not after market and had the same problem.  Very aggravating.  I did find a fix that worked, but it was a hassle.  I doubt HP management pays attention to these things; you can't fix stupid.  HP just lost a customer, forever.
