I have just finished the complementary cartridge that came with the printer (laserjet pro M118w). Bought a HP cartridge making sure that it was authentic. When the cartridge is inserted it makes a whirling sound, then stops and the two reds lights come on. The printer has only printed 340 copies. This is driving me nuts.

Bought this printer for printing two-sided pages. My old HP Laserjet 2100M is still going strong  after 18 years of service and has printed over 15,000 copies.

Hello All

I have to admit to my own stupidity regarding my problem with the printer. I am used to the old Laserjet 2100M printers. The imaging drum and toner were all in one.

Then I took a much more concentrated look at my Laserjet Pro M11W. I had removed what I thought was a complimentary cartridge without realising that it was the imaging drum and should have stayed in the printer. So I have just inserted what I thought had to be discarded, then inserted my new HP toner cartridge and bingo, I am printing again.

However, I have looked at the manual very carefully and nowhere does it state that the imaging must NOT be removed from the printer. If I am wrong would someone kindly point out for me where this can be found.

The bottom line is that I have solved a problem that was due to my own stupidity. Keep safe and well. Terence

Instal your old empty cartridge to see will the two red lights turn OFF.

When the printer was working properly, the two red lights came on and I assumed that the cartridge was empty. It had printed 340 copies. I have inserted it again, there is no grinding sound and the two red lights come on, again I am assuming that it indicating that the toner is finished.

I am connecting via a USB.

Hello

I have just installed San Doctor, which has informed me that the error is Device Status. How do I resolve this problem?

Hello

Thank you very much for replying in these very difficult times.

There is no grinding noise when inserting the complimentary cartridge, but the two light still come on. I assumes that this is because the cartridge is empty.

The HP Scan Doctor highlights Device Status as the error. I cannot see any  feature for uploading PNG files so that you can see the results for yourself.

Turn the printer OFF, remove both toner and drum from the printer, turn the printer ON install one by one first drum close cover wait, then old toner cartridge.

Hello Valsimot

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to help me. Please forgive my ignorance, but how do I remove the drum? Is it possible to send PNGs to you. I can photograph the printer exposing the internal part and then you can show me where the drum is.

I have just done this but the speech was in Russian. Can't find anyone speaking in English. I think there is a drum already in my printer, do mean remove that? If so, how would I do this? If I could upload a jpeg to you this would really help.

I am confused. I have been replacing HP cartridges for 15 years. You speak of the drum and the toner as being two different properties, where I have always assumed that the tone is inside the drum in one piece. Please remember that I am using a brand new toner cartridge.
