I own an HP printer- the officejet 5255, new ink cartridges are not communicating with the printer. HELP. I turned the printer off and then on. I removed and then put back the ink cartridges. I turned off the printer, unplugged it, and then turned it on. again. The same thing happened each time. Something said to clean the conductors between the cartridge and the inside of the printer. WHAT DO YOU USE FOR THAT? I do not want to use anything that will make the situation worse.

After I did what you said, it did not change the notification on the printer screen. I downloaded the HP Smart onto my laptop. It seems to be reading the colored ink cartridge and not the black one. I cleaned the cartridge a couple of times, as well as the connection point, yet the notification still remains. I turned off the printer, unplugged it, then turned it back on. The notification is still there.
