How can I override the error messages preventing me from printing using the non-HP ink cartridges I just installed?

I'm furious that despite the Class Action litigation settlement in 2018 that resulted in HP having to pay millions to consumers for blocking users from using refilled or non-HP ink, HP is still pushing software or firmware that prevents its use. I'm sure this is illegal and/or in violation of the court's orders. HP has also made it virtually impossible to talk to an actual agent.

I've already gone through all of the steps to re-set my HP 8025e all-in-one, installed software updates, done a hard re-set, re-installed each cartridge after powering off/on, etc. ,etc., several different ways. NOTHING WORKS. HP has wasted enough of everyone's time and money.

Hi @eeb4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an ink cartridge issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware
