Hi @fdasfvcdsaf342

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is not printing black despite having full ink cartridges and cleaning them, here are some additional troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Check Print Settings

  • Make sure that the print settings are not set to "Print in Grayscale" or "Draft" mode. Go to the print settings in your application and ensure you have selected the correct options.

2. Run a Print Head Cleaning

  • Use the printer's built-in maintenance feature to clean the print head:
    • Go to Printer Maintenance from the printer’s control panel.
    • Select Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridges and follow the prompts.

3. Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic

  • You can run a print quality diagnostic test to check the status of the cartridges:
    • On the printer’s display, go to Setup > Print Quality Tools > Print Quality Report.
    • Check the report for any issues with the black ink.

4. Check for Clogged Nozzles

  • If the cleaning cycle does not work, check if the black ink nozzle is clogged:
    • Remove the black ink cartridge and inspect the nozzle for any dried ink. You can try using a damp cloth to gently clean the nozzle.

5. Reinstall the Ink Cartridge

  • Remove the black ink cartridge and then reinstall it. Sometimes reseating the cartridge can help restore connectivity.

6. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

7. Check for Software Issues

  • If you're printing from a specific application, try printing from another application to see if the issue persists.

8. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on.

9. Replace the Ink Cartridge

  • If none of the above steps work, the black ink cartridge itself may be defective, even if it shows as full. Consider replacing it with a new cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
