Hi @cobras1966,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP DeskJet 2800 is not recognizing an OEM cartridge, even after cleaning the printhead. Let’s go through steps to try resolving this:
Check Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure the OEM cartridge is actually compatible with HP DeskJet 2800 series.
Even minor differences in model numbers can cause recognition issues.
Remove Protective Tape
Make sure the plastic protective tape covering the cartridge contacts and nozzles is completely removed.
Clean Cartridge Contacts Properly
Power off the printer.
Remove the cartridge and gently clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
Avoid touching the nozzles directly.
Let it dry for a few minutes before reinserting.
Reinsert Cartridge Carefully
Push the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
Make sure it’s installed in the correct slot (black vs color).
Reset the Printer
Turn off the printer and unplug it for 1–2 minutes.
Plug it back in and turn it on.
This can refresh the printer’s memory to recognize new cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware
Sometimes HP firmware blocks non-HP cartridges.
Go to HP Support → DeskJet 2800 → Software & Drivers and update the printer firmware.
After updating, try reinserting the OEM cartridge.
Try a Different OEM Cartridge
Some third-party cartridges may be faulty or have incorrect chips.
Test with a different OEM cartridge to see if it’s a compatibility issue.
I hope this helps.
