Hi @stonemarble
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're receiving a warning about older generation cartridges being incompatible with your printer, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
1. Check Compatibility
- Confirm Cartridge Model: Make sure the cartridges you are using are compatible with your specific printer model. Check the printer manual or the H website for a list of compatible cartridges.
2. Inspect Cartridge Installation
- Remove and Reinsert: Sometimes, simply removing the cartridges and reinserting them can help establish a better connection.
- Check for Damage: Inspect the cartridges for any signs of damage or wear, such as broken clips or worn-out chips.
3. Update Printer Firmware
- Firmware Update: Occasionally, printers will require a firmware update to recognize new cartridges. Visit the HP support page to check for updates and follow the instructions to install them.
4. Reset the Printer
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes reset the cartridge recognition.
5. Use Genuine Cartridges
- If you are using third-party or refilled cartridges, consider switching to genuine cartridges. Some printers are designed to reject non-genuine cartridges to ensure optimal performance.
6. Check Printer Settings
- Ensure that there are no settings on the printer that may be restricting the use of older cartridges. Look in the printer settings menu for any relevant options.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
