Hi @Ang2000,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer is displaying an error message that one or more cartridges are damaged despite using new cartridges, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. The compatible cartridge models for this printer are HP 950 (black) and HP 951 (cyan, magenta, yellow).
2. Check for Protective Tape
- Make sure all the protective tape or stickers on the new cartridges have been removed.
- Check if any tape or packaging material is still on the cartridges, which can cause them to be unreadable by the printer.
3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
Dirty or obstructed contacts can cause the printer to report damaged cartridges. Here’s how to clean them:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the ink cartridge access door and remove all the ink cartridges.
- Inspect the electrical contacts (the small metal bits on the cartridges and inside the printer) for any ink or debris.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
- Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are properly seated.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
4. Reset the Printer
Performing a reset can sometimes clear errors related to ink cartridges:
- Power off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues
with new cartridges:
- Ensure the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
- Follow the prompts to check for and install any available updates.
6. Try Using Another Set of Cartridges
It’s possible that the new cartridges you have might be faulty, even if they are brand new:
- Replace the Cartridges:
- Try using another set of new cartridges to see if the issue persists.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
This tool can help diagnose and fix issues with your printer:
- Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
- Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve issues with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
