Hello @FL-photog_26, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
If the top half of some words is missing or not printing correctly on the HP Tango test page, this is typically related to a print quality issue involving the printhead nozzles, cartridge performance, or printhead alignment.
Please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Clean the ink smears (HP app)
- Use the HP app to clean printhead contacts and improve any print quality issues.
- Open the HP app, and then click the image of your printer.
- Go to Settings > Advanced Settings or Settings > View All > Advanced Settings, and then look for a Tools menu or Print Quality Toolbox.
- Click Clean from the Clean Smear tool.
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page
- A Print Quality Diagnostic page helps identify the source of print quality issues.
- Load plain white paper into the input tray.
- Open the HP app, and then click the image of your printer to open the settings and management tools.
- Scroll to Diagnostics or Tools, click Print quality tools or Printer Reports, and then click Print quality report.
- A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.
- Examine the color blocks for defects.
- If the color blocks are not streaked, faded, or missing, skip to Examine the alignment lines and green color block for defects.
- If any of the color blocks are streaked, faded, or missing, continue to the next step.
Clean the printhead (HP app)
- Use the HP app to clean the printhead and fix many print quality issues including incorrect colors, streaks, and faded printouts.
- Load plain white paper into the input tray.
- Open the HP app, and then click the image of your printer.
- Under Diagnostics or Tools, click Print quality tools.
- Click Clean printhead, or click View all print quality tools, OK, and then Clean Printhead.
- A Clean printheads message displays, and a test page prints.
- Example of test page printouts
- Examine the print quality on the test page.
- If the print quality is acceptable, you are done troubleshooting.
- If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes in the HP app to perform a second-level and third-level cleaning, which are more thorough and take a few extra minutes to complete.
- Note: Printheads that are badly clogged might require another printhead cleaning cycle. Wait at least 30 minutes before cleaning the printhead again.
Have a great day!
