@ba2411, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 is printing photos with a purple tint, it could be due to a few different issues. Here are some things to check and troubleshoot:
Ink Levels and Cartridges
Check Ink Levels: Ensure all the ink tanks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) have sufficient ink. Low ink in any of these can cause color imbalance.
Check for Clogged Printhead: Sometimes, a clogged or dirty printhead can cause colors to print incorrectly, especially with colors like magenta and cyan.
Try running the printer’s built-in cleaning or maintenance cycle to clear the printhead. You can usually find this option in the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
Color Calibration
Automatic Calibration Issue: The printer might not be properly calibrated for color accuracy.
Color Profile: Ensure the correct color profile is selected for printing photos. If using software like Photoshop, double-check the color profile settings.
Perform a color calibration in the printer’s settings, or you can adjust the color settings via the software you’re printing from.
Paper Type
Paper Compatibility: Make sure you're using the right type of paper for photo printing. Standard office paper can affect how colors appear, leading to odd tints.
Use photo paper or glossy paper that is designed for inkjet printing.
Printer Settings
Print Quality: Double-check the print quality settings. If it's set to a lower quality, the colors might not print as expected.
Set the printer to "Best" or "High" print quality from the printer settings in the control panel or via the app.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
