Hi @jmolson461946,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer is displaying a “print head is misaligned” error, and resetting it hasn’t resolved the issue, here are some additional steps you can take to try to fix it:

Check Print Head Alignment:

  • Open the Printer’s Control Panel:
    • Go to Setup or Printer Maintenance from the printer’s control panel.
  • Print Head Alignment:
    • Select Print Head Alignment or a similar option to start the alignment process. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Remove and Reinstall the Print Head:

  • Turn Off the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the Printer’s Access Door:
    • Open the door to access the print head and ink cartridges.
  • Remove the Ink Cartridges:
    • Gently remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
  • Remove the Print Head:
    • Depending on the model, you may need to release a latch or button to remove the print head assembly.
  • Clean the Print Head Contacts:
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the metal contacts on the print head and inside the printer.
  • Reinstall the Print Head and Cartridges:
    • Place the print head back into its slot, ensuring it is securely in place.
    • Reinstall the ink cartridges, making sure they click into place.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path that could be affecting print head alignment.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Access the HP Smart App:
    • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Go to Printer Settings or Printer Maintenance and look for any available firmware updates. Install any updates if available.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @jmolson461946,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Perform a Print Head Cleaning:

  • Open the Printer’s Control Panel:
    • Navigate to Setup or Printer Maintenance on the printer’s control panel.
  • Select Print Head Cleaning:
    • Follow the instructions to perform a print head cleaning. This process can help clear any clogs that might be affecting alignment.

Run a Diagnostic Test:

  • Use the HP Smart App:
    • Access diagnostic tools in the HP Smart app to run a print quality test and check for any issues with the print head.

Reset the Printer:

  • Factory Reset:
    • As a last resort, perform a factory reset of the printer to restore default settings. This can sometimes resolve persistent issues.
    • Refer to the printer’s manual or settings menu for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

These steps should help resolve the print head misalignment issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610.

If none of the above steps work, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance. There may be a hardware issue with the print head.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thank you for this information.  I did all the steps and I am still getting the same error message.  I think I need to purchase a new printer.

I didn't do the factor reset because I don't know how to do that step.

Hi @jmolson461946,

Let's try a factory reset. If this does not work, the printer might need service or replacement.

To factory reset your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer, follow these steps:

Method 1: Using the Control Panel

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Resume button (located on the right side of the control panel) for 5 seconds.
  3. Release the button.
  4. Wait for the printer to complete the reset process. This may take a few minutes.

Method 2: Using the Web Interface

  1. Open a web browser on your computer.
  2. Type the printer's IP address into the address bar and press Enter. You can find the IP address on the printer's control panel or by printing a network configuration report.
  3. Log in to the printer's web interface using the default username and password (usually "admin" and "admin").
  4. Navigate to the Tools or Maintenance menu.
  5. Look for the Factory Reset or Reset to Defaults option and click on it.
  6. Confirm the reset by following the on-screen instructions.

Notes:

  • Backup any important printer settings or documents before performing a factory reset.
  • The factory reset will restore the printer to its original settings, so you may need to reconfigure your network settings and other preferences.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
