Hello, I have an HP photo ENVY 6232 printer. It was working fine until it started printing "shifted up". The full page gets printed, but there is a much larger space at the bottom and a thinner one ayt the top. This happens no matter what type of margins I use in MS word.
I've tried turning it off, unplugging it and replugging after over a minute, aligning the cartridges, printing an alignment page. Nothing has worked so far. It's not awful because the whole page still prints, but it looks horrible and sometimes I have to print official documents.

None of that worked, sorry, but thanks for trying. Going to close this, looking foward to buying Open Printer in a couple months and never deal with HP again.

Hi @ewrxtctvybuuino,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I hear how frustrating it is when your ENVY Photo 6232 suddenly starts nudging everything upward on the page, leaving that heavy block of empty space at the bottom and a thin, uneasy gap at the top. You expect the page to slide out crisp and perfectly aligned, but instead it feels just a little “off,” almost like a picture frame hanging slightly crooked on the wall.
This kind of vertical print shift is usually caused by a few fixable calibration, paper‑feed, or driver issues, and we can gently work through the steps together:
- Check Paper Size and Type:
- Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer driver match the actual paper loaded in the printer. This can sometimes cause misalignment in print.

- Printer Software Update:
- Check for any available updates for your printer’s firmware and software: HP ENVY Photo 6232 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support. Updated firmware can resolve unexpected printing issues.

Following these steps should help address the alignment issue with your printer.
I hope this helps.

I had done most of these already. I'll probably try what's left when I have time and call it quits, I'm moving in a few months and throwing it in the trash anyway.
Interestingly, the shifted print does not happen with PDFs. Does that narrow it down?

Hi @ewrxtctvybuuino,
Thank you for sticking with this as far as you have. I know you’ve already put a lot of time into troubleshooting, and it’s perfectly understandable to feel done with it, especially knowing you’ll be moving soon. But your new detail about the shifted print NOT happening with PDFs is actually a very important clue.
The Short Fixes (if you ever decide to try before tossing it)
Fix 1: Remove the “Microsoft IPP Class Driver” version
- Settings → Printers & scanners
- Click your ENVY Photo 6232
- Remove device
- Restart PC
- Open HP Smart → Add Printer
HP Smart forces the official HP driver path, which restores correct margins.
Fix 2: Set paper size in BOTH places
Do this in the app (Word/Chrome/etc):
- Paper → A4 or Letter
- Margins → Normal
- Scale = 100%
Do this in the driver:
- Settings → Printers
- ENVY Photo 6232 → Printer preferences
- Set the same paper type and size
Mismatch = shifted output.
Fix 3: Re-add the printer using HP Easy Start
This rebuilds the entire HP print stack without touching Windows.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
