Hi @nkdnana7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Encountering an "ink cartridge communication error" after changing the cartridge on an HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-In-One Printer can be frustrating, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that you have installed the new ink cartridge correctly. Double-check that you removed any protective tapes or stickers from the cartridge and that it is securely inserted into the correct slot.
- Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve communication errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Ink residue or dust on the cartridge contacts can interfere with communication. Carefully remove the ink cartridge, and using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water, gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer model. If there is an update, follow the instructions to download and install it. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve known issues.
- Reset the Printer: Performing a hard reset can help clear temporary errors. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and any other cables connected to it. After that, press and hold the power button on the printer for at least 15 seconds. Then, reconnect the power cord, turn on the printer, and check if the error persists.
- Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your printer model. Third-party or refilled cartridges may not communicate properly with the printer, leading to errors.
- Check for Obstructions: Inspect the printer's cartridge carriage to make sure there are no obstructions or paper jams that might be preventing the cartridges from moving freely.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
