It’s frustrating when a printer refuses to recognize cartridges, especially after cleaning and reinstalling drivers. Since your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3546 e-All-in-One Printer is still having issues, here are some additional troubleshooting steps:
Step 1: Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP ink and compatible with your printer model.
- If using third-party cartridges, they may not be recognized correctly.
Step 2: Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect the metal contacts.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the contacts.
- Let them dry completely, then reinstall the cartridges.
Step 3: Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the issue persists.
Step 4: Perform a Printhead Cleaning
- Open HP Smart or the printer’s control panel.
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead.
- Run the cleaning cycle multiple times if needed.
Step 5: Update Printer Firmware
- HP regularly releases firmware updates that fix ink recognition issues.
- Follow HP’s official guide to update firmware here.
Step 6: Try a Different Cartridge
- If possible, test a brand-new HP cartridge to rule out a defective batch.
