Hi @LBR8,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that your printer is displaying an "Ink Cartridge Cannot Move" error. This message usually indicates that something is preventing the carriage from moving freely inside the printer.

Since you did not mention the printer model, please try the following steps from HP's official troubleshooting guide:

  1. Reset the printer
    • Turn the printer on.
    • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet, then reconnect it to the printer.
    • Turn the printer on if it does not power on automatically.

  2. Check for any obstructions
    • Open the cartridge access door.
    • If the carriage is accessible, gently move it to one side.
    • Remove any loose paper, packing material, or other objects that may be blocking the carriage path.
    • Make sure the carriage can move freely from one side of the printer to the other.

  3. Verify the ink cartridges
    • Ensure all ink cartridges are installed correctly and are properly seated in their slots.
    • Close the cartridge access door securely.

  4. Restart the printer
    • After checking the carriage path and cartridges, restart the printer and check if the error has cleared.

For the complete HP troubleshooting guide, please follow the official instructions here: HP Printers - Carriage jam or E3 error | HP® Support

If the issue persists after completing all the steps in the guide, please reply with:

  • The exact HP printer model.
  • Whether the carriage moves freely when the access door is open.
  • Any additional error messages are displayed on the printer.

We'll be happy to assist you further.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
