Hi @Lindee50,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer has ink but the printout is either smeared or blank and the print job cuts off halfway, several factors could be contributing to this issue. Here's a detailed troubleshooting guide to help you resolve it:

**1. Check Ink Levels and Cartridges

  • Double-check the ink levels to ensure that the cartridges are not low or empty. Even if the printer shows ink, it’s worth confirming that there’s enough ink in each cartridge.
  • Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges. Make sure they are properly seated and that there are no signs of leakage or damage.

**2. Clean the Printhead

  • Use the printer’s built-in cleaning function. This can usually be accessed via the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer. This function helps remove clogs from the printhead.
  • If the automatic cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, you might need to manually clean the printhead. If the printhead is removable, gently clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water. Be cautious and follow the printer’s manual for specific instructions.

**3. Check Paper and Print Settings

  • Ensure that you are using the correct type and size of paper for your print job. Using the wrong paper type can affect print quality.
  • Go to your printer’s settings and ensure the print settings are correctly configured for the type of document you are printing (e.g., plain paper, photo paper).

**4. Check for Software or Driver Issues

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP Support website or the manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer software. This can sometimes resolve issues related to software corruption or incorrect settings.

**5. Perform Printer Maintenance

  • Many printers have diagnostic tools built into their software that can help identify and resolve issues. Run these tools if available.
  • Look for firmware updates for your printer on the manufacturer’s website and install any that are available.

**6. Inspect Printer Mechanism

  • Open the printer and inspect the printhead and paper feed mechanisms for any visible issues or obstructions.
  • Perform a hard reset of the printer by turning it off, unplugging it for a minute, and then turning it back on.

**7. Perform a Test Print

  1. Print a Test Page:
    • Print a test page from the printer’s menu or software to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with a specific document or with the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
