Hi @corey49,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is still indicating a problem with the ink cartridges even after replacing them, it suggests there might be an issue beyond just the cartridges themselves. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Check Cartridge Model:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct model of cartridges for your printer. Sometimes incorrect or non-genuine cartridges can cause issues.

Check Cartridge Expiry:

  • Ensure the cartridges are not expired or damaged. Even new cartridges can sometimes be defective.

2. Inspect and Clean Cartridge Contacts

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Remove Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and carefully remove the cartridges.

Inspect Contacts:

  • Check the copper contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer for any dirt, residue, or damage.

Clean Contacts:

  • Gently clean the contacts on the cartridges and in the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Avoid using alcohol or abrasive materials.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Reinstall the cartridges and ensure they are securely seated.

3. Perform Printer Maintenance

Printhead Cleaning:

  • Run the printhead cleaning cycle from the printer’s control panel or using the printer’s software. This can help clear any clogs or issues with the printhead.

Align Printheads:

  • Perform a printhead alignment if your printer offers this option in the maintenance menu.

4. Check Printer Firmware and Software

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website and download any available updates for your printer model.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Update them from the HP Support website if needed.

5. Reset Printer Settings

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Factory Reset:

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer to restore it to its default settings. Refer to your printer’s manual or the HP Support website for instructions on how to do this.

6. Check for Mechanical Issues

Inspect the Cartridge Slot:

  • Look for any obstructions or damage in the cartridge slot area.

Check the Printhead:

  • Inspect the printhead for any visible damage or blockages. If the printhead is removable, you might also clean it carefully with distilled water.

7. Verify Printer Settings

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure the printer is set to recognize the installed cartridges. Sometimes incorrect settings can cause cartridge errors.

Check Cartridge Recognition:

  • Ensure that the printer recognizes the cartridges correctly. Some printers have a display or software that shows cartridge status.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
