Hi @amanda2006,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This error message indicates that there is a problem with the ink cartridge in your HP DeskJet 2640 All-in-One Printer. It specifically suggests that the printer is expecting an original HP Instant Ink cartridge, and it might not be recognizing the current cartridge you have installed.
Here are a few steps you can take to try to fix the issue:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridge is properly installed. Sometimes, cartridges can become loose or not click into place securely.
- Use Original Cartridges: If you're using a non-HP or refilled cartridge, try replacing it with an original HP Instant Ink cartridge. The printer may be programmed to only work with genuine cartridges.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset the printer's sensors and clear temporary errors.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware could potentially resolve compatibility issues.
Remember to handle ink cartridges carefully and follow any instructions provided by HP to avoid damaging the printer or cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
