My ink ran out. I bought 951 color cartridge from Best Buy. I followed instructions for installation into HP Officejet Pro 8610. Initially it recognized the ink as legitimate but then it says "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP." I have turned off the printer, the computer, the router multiple times. Problem persists. I have taken out the ink cartridges and put them back in again, Problem persists. After doing that, I shut everything down again and restarted. Problem persists.

Hi @Smae1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8610 is not recognizing new cartridges. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Authenticity: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. You can verify the authenticity of your cartridges by visiting the HP Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Program.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  • Remove the cartridges and reinsert them into their proper slots until they click into place.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, and then plug the power cord back directly into a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the printer’s control panel by going to the settings menu and selecting 'Printer Update'.

Cleaning the Printhead:

  • Load plain paper into the input tray.
  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Align the Printhead: From the printer control panel, select Setup > Tools > Align Printhead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
