Hi @bbmjr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

Check Ink Levels

Open the HP Smart App on your computer or phone.

Go to Printer Status and check ink levels.

If the black ink is low, replace the cartridge.

Clean the Printhead

On your printer screen, go to Settings → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead.

Run the cleaning process and print a test page.

Repeat 2-3 times if the issue persists.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor on your PC.

Run the tool and follow the steps to diagnose and fix print quality issues.

Use the Correct Print Settings

When printing, open Printer Properties.

Set Color Mode to Black & White or Grayscale.

Click Apply and try printing again.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Open the printer lid and remove the ink cartridges.

Gently wipe the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth.

Reinsert them and restart the printer.

Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Try printing again.

Replace the Black Ink Cartridge

If black ink is not printing at all, the black cartridge might be defective.

Try replacing it with a new genuine HP cartridge.

Final Check

Try printing a nozzle check test page from the printer settings. If black ink still doesn’t print, the printhead may be clogged or faulty.

Let me know if any of these steps work for you
