Trying to print from relatively older bluetooth printer (HP envy 5530).  Only blank pages are coming out.  I have no color cartridge installed (ran out of ink), but black cartridge is installed and estimated ink level is halfway full.  Have not printed from this printer in about 2 years.   I have tried printing a print quality report, and a blank page is printed out.

Hi @etpagel,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 5530 is printing blank pages despite having an installed black cartridge with adequate ink, and especially considering it hasn't been used for about two years, it’s likely an issue with either the ink delivery system or the printer settings. Here’s a structured approach to diagnose and resolve the problem:

**1. Check and Reinstall Ink Cartridges

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the black ink cartridge is installed correctly. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.

Inspect Cartridge:

  • Check for any protective tape or film on the cartridge that might not have been removed.
  • If the cartridge is old or expired, it might not work properly even if it has ink.

**2. Clean Printhead and Cartridges

Use Printer’s Built-In Cleaning Function:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel.
  • Navigate to the maintenance or tools menu and select the option for cleaning the printhead or cartridges. This can help clear any dried ink or clogs.

Manual Cleaning (if necessary):

  • Remove the ink cartridge and gently clean the printhead and cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Be careful not to use too much liquid, as excess moisture can damage the printer.

**3. Perform Printer Maintenance

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic:

  • Use the printer’s diagnostic tools to check for print quality issues. This might be found under the maintenance menu on the printer's control panel.

Check for Ink Smears or Dried Ink:

  • Inspect the printer’s interior, particularly around the printhead, for any dried ink or obstructions.

**4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for the HP Envy 5530. Install any available updates.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
