Hi @Michael19661,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 not accepting the new black ink cartridge despite resetting and cleaning. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the replacement cartridge is compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970. Sometimes, incorrect cartridge models or non-genuine cartridges can cause issues.
- Inspect Cartridge Contacts: Check the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge for any dirt, debris, or damage. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water if needed.
- Inspect Printer Cartridge Slot: Similarly, check the cartridge slot in the printer for any debris or obstructions that could prevent the cartridge from making proper contact. Use a flashlight to inspect and clean it carefully if necessary.
- Reinstall Cartridge: Remove the new cartridge from the printer, and then reinsert it firmly into the correct slot. Ensure it clicks into place securely.
- Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset the printer's internal mechanisms.
- Update Printer Firmware: Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try another new cartridge (preferably from a different batch) to rule out the possibility of a defective cartridge.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
