Hi @rbnutria,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is not allowing you to turn off cartridge protection, it could be due to various reasons related to printer settings, firmware, or cartridge compatibility. Cartridge protection is a feature found in some printers to prevent the use of non-genuine or refilled cartridges. Here’s how you can address this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings:

  • Access Printer Menu: Use the printer’s control panel or screen to navigate to the settings menu.
  • Find Cartridge Protection Setting: Look for an option related to cartridge protection or security. This may be under settings like “Maintenance,” “Printer Settings,” or “Security.”
  • Disable Protection: If you find an option to disable cartridge protection, select it and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check Printer Software or Driver Settings:

  • Open Printer Software: On your computer, open the printer management software that came with your printer or download it from the manufacturer’s website.
  • Locate Cartridge Settings: Navigate to settings related to cartridges or ink management. Look for any options to disable cartridge protection or similar settings.

3. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for Updates: Go to the printer Hp website and check for firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Install Firmware Update: Follow the instructions to update your printer’s firmware. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to cartridge protection.

4. Replace or Reset Cartridges:

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer. Some printers have restrictions on non-genuine cartridges.
  • Reset Cartridges: Try removing and reinserting the cartridges. Make sure they are properly installed and check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
