HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer

my printer is just spitting out blank white paper even though i replaced the ink *correctly.* My color cartridges are empty, but i'm only trying to print in black and white. my computer settings are fine and everything is set to print in greyscale. It was working just a few days ago, but i ran out of black ink. I have a new black ink cart and it's just giving me blanks. I've done endless troubleshooting for an hour and nothing is working. Please advise!

Hi @jalow123456,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your printer producing blank pages even after replacing the black ink cartridge. Here are some detailed steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the new black ink cartridge is securely installed in the correct slot.Remove the cartridge and reinstall it to make sure it’s seated properly.

2. Run Print Quality Diagnostic:

  • Use the printer's control panel to print a test page. This helps determine if the printer is able to produce any output.
  • If the test page prints blank, proceed with further troubleshooting.

3. Clean Print Heads

  • Printers often have a maintenance or cleaning function to clean print heads.
  • Refer to your printer’s manual or use the printer’s control panel to find and run the print head cleaning utility.
  • Sometimes running multiple cleaning cycles may be necessary, especially if the printer hasn’t been used for a while or if there was a recent ink cartridge change.

4. Check for Ink Flow

  1. Remove Plastic Strip (If Applicable):
    • Ensure that the black ink cartridge doesn’t have any protective strips or tapes that need to be removed before installation.
    • Check the cartridge for any obstructions or leaks that might affect ink flow.

5. Adjust Print Settings:

  • Make sure the printer is set to print in black and white or grayscale mode.
  • Verify that there are no print jobs stuck in the print queue that could be causing conflicts.

6. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can sometimes cause printing issues.Visit the HP website or use the device manager to update the printer drivers to the latest version.

7. Perform Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.Wait for 1-2 minutes, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • This can sometimes resolve temporary issues with the printer.

8. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Follow the instructions provided to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
