HP ENVY 6022e All-in-One Printer

i recently cancelled my ink subscription and used cartridges i purchased from Amazon which ran out a lot quicker than the ones from my subscription now i have bought 2 lots of cartridges exactly the same as before and now it's constantly saying "validating" and won't print, I feel it's because I've cancelled my subscription and they want me to buy from them

@Emma3110, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer being stuck at validate!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It does sound like your HP ENVY 6022e might still be linked to the HP Instant Ink subscription, which could be causing issues with third-party or even HP cartridges purchased outside the subscription. Here are a few things you can try:

Check for Subscription Lock:

  • If you were using HP Instant Ink cartridges, they stop working once the subscription is canceled.
  • Make sure you're using standard HP cartridges and not leftover Instant Ink ones.

Restart Your Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from power, and wait for about 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in.

Reset the Printer:

  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Power buttons for about 10 seconds until the printer restarts.
  • This may clear any leftover subscription settings.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to HP’s support page and download the latest firmware for your printer.
  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Remove and Reinsert Cartridges:

  • Take out both cartridges.
  • Clean the metal contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a dry lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert them securely.

Check for HP+ Activation:

  • If your printer has HP+ enabled, it might require only original HP cartridges.
  • Check in the HP Smart app under settings if HP+ is activated.

Disable Cartridge Protection (If Available):

  • Open HP Smart appPrinter SettingsAdvanced Settings (or access the printer’s Embedded Web Server).
  • Look for a "Cartridge Protection" option and disable it.

Factory Reset (Last Resort):

  • If nothing works, reset the printer to factory settings and set it up again.
  • Hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons for 10 seconds or check your printer manual for reset instructions.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
