Trying to setup my printer on a new laptop.  Message on printer screen will not go away.  I have shut the printer down, taken out cartridges, cleaned them and put them back in.  Same problem exits.

Hi @Star324,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue with your HP printer related to the ink cartridges. Here are some steps to help resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps for Ink Cartridge Errors

Check the Ink Cartridge Compatibility:

Ensure Correct Installation:

  • Double-check that each ink cartridge is correctly installed in its designated slot. Match the color and shape of the icon on the cartridge with the corresponding slot in the print carriage.

Clean the Electrical Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.

  • Carefully clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and within the printhead using a lint-free cloth or swab.

  • Reinsert the ink cartridges and close the door.

Cartridge Reset:

  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and perform a printer reset.

  • Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.

  • Wait 10 seconds, plug the power cord back in, and then turn the printer on.

  • Reinstall the ink cartridges and check if the error message persists.

Replace Defective Cartridges:

  • If the issue continues after cleaning, there may be a problem with the cartridges themselves. Consider replacing the affected cartridges with new ones.

Update Printer Firmware:

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
