Hi @KDLR,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your OfficeJet 8610 shows “Ink System Failure” after a printhead cleaning and the touchscreen is stuck under the Help menu with the back button disabled, it usually means the printer’s firmware is locked in an error state.

Here’s how you can reach the diagnostics or reset the printer:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  • Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  • Power on the printer.

This often clears the stuck UI and reloads the main menu.

2. Access Support Menu via Key Combination

If the screen remains stuck:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Press and hold Back + Cancel (or Back + OK, depending on firmware).
  • While holding power on the printer.
  • Keep holding until the Support Menu appears. From there, you can run Diagnostics or A semi-full Reset.

3. Semi-Full Reset (Last Resort)

  • In the Support Menu, select Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.
  • This will restore factory defaults and clear ink system errors.

⚠️ Note: You’ll need to reconfigure Wi-Fi and preferences after this.

4. Check Printhead & Cartridges

  • Remove all cartridges and the printhead.
  • Clean contacts gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Reinstall firmly. If the error persists, the printhead may need replacement.
