Hi @sue_butterfly,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Ink Levels:

  • Verify that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. You can check the ink levels through the printer's control panel or HP Smart app.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues.

Clean Printhead:

  • Cleaning the printhead can often resolve issues with black ink not printing. Follow these steps:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to “Settings.”
    • Select “Printer Maintenance” or “Tools.”
    • Choose “Clean Printhead” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Printhead Alignment:

  • Aligning the printhead can improve print quality. To align the printhead:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to “Settings.”
    • Select “Printer Maintenance” or “Tools.”
    • Choose “Align Printhead” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check for Blockages and Clean Cartridges:

  • Sometimes, dried ink or debris can block the ink nozzle. Remove the black ink cartridge and check for any blockages.
  • Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the contacts on the ink cartridge and inside the printer.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Make sure your printer firmware and drivers are up to date.
  • Visit the HP Support Page for the HP OfficeJet 5255 and download the latest firmware and drivers for Windows 10 (32-bit).

Reset the Printer:

  • To reset the printer:
    • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Perform a Print Test:

  • Print a test page to check if the black ink is now printing correctly:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to “Settings.”
    • Select “Printer Maintenance” or “Tools.”
    • Choose “Print Quality Report” or “Print Test Page.”

I hope this helps.
