After replacing the black cartridge the printer announces an error:
"There is a problem with the supply system. Try replacing the affected cartridge with a different...etc"
I have already assembled another new cartridge but the malfunction repeats

@Ariky, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you're seeing the error "There is a problem with the supply system" on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 after replacing the black cartridge even after trying a second new cartridge here are some steps to help resolve the issue:
Power Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer on.
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
- Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
Check Cartridge Authenticity
- Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes trigger supply system errors.
- You can verify cartridge authenticity here: HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site
Clean Cartridge and Electrical Contacts
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the black cartridge.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean:
- The electrical contacts on the cartridge (gold/copper-colored dots).
- The contacts inside the printer where the cartridge connects.
- Let everything dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridge.
Try a Different Cartridge (If Available)
- Even new cartridges can be defective. If you have access to another genuine HP black cartridge, try installing it.
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.
- Download the latest firmware from the HP Software and Drivers page.
Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
- On the printer's touchscreen:
- Tap Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset. This will not delete your print drivers but will reset settings.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, the printer may have a hardware fault in the ink supply system. In that case, We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - Middle East | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
