Hi @gGeno601,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is showing the cyan cartridge as empty, and even after replacing it with genuine HP cartridges, it still displays as damaged. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

Restart the Printer

Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on to reset the system.

Check Cartridge & Protective Tape

Remove the cyan cartridge and inspect it.

Make sure any protective tape or plastic strip covering the ink nozzle or contacts has been removed.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the gold electrical contacts on the cartridge.

Also clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer where the cartridge sits.

Allow both to dry completely before reinserting.

Reinstall the Cartridge

Insert the cyan cartridge back into its slot firmly until it clicks into place.

Update Printer Firmware

On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

Outdated firmware can sometimes misread new cartridges.

Test with Another Cartridge

If possible, try a second genuine HP cyan cartridge.

This helps confirm if the issue is with the cartridge batch or the printer itself.

Perform Printer Reset

From the control panel: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults.

Reconnect to your network and test again.

I hope this helps.
