HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

I bought 2 sets of 202x COLOR and BLACK in June.  1 set worked from June - December.  Install 2nd set and get NON HP CHIP detected message.  Put old cartridge back printer works.  They are the same cartridges bought from Staples.   Cartridge protect is OFF on printer.    Pulled all cartridges, turned off for 3 minutes, restarted - does not correct problem.    I see many posts here but no solutions.

I understand that you are getting cartridge error, I am glad to assist you.

Clean the electric contacts on the toner cartridge

  • The toner cartridge might have a faulty connection to the printer. Use a lint-free cloth to clean the toner cartridge contact (E-label).
  • Open the toner cartridge access door.
  • Remove the toner cartridge from its slot.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to wipe the toner cartridge contact (E-label) on the top left of the toner cartridge.

Thank you.   I clean using a lint free cloth but it did not fix the problem.  The printer "HP chip not installed' message still happens.

You might have to perform an NVRAM reset on the printer to fix this issue.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.

Oh no, I follow the steps and it went just as described, but now the printer has 49 Service Error Turn Off and On which will not go away no matter how many times I turn off and on (even unplugged)

Did those steps brick my printer?
