I wanted to use my old printer to print something (this one can print anything in really high DPI settings, the reason I still used it to this day). I had run out of black ink on my cartridge, so I swapped a new, fresh cartridge and I tried to print, but the paper got jammed! So I unplugged it (from the power brick), removed the paper and tried to boot it up again, now I get this error after I reconnected power by plugging in the brick to the printer first. I tried online solutions but nothing helped (leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes, taking out the cartridge while unplugged and stuff). I left the printer out for a few months, unplugged and now plugged it back in recently. A very different cartridge error popped up, but then right after I reattached the cartridge, it threw the same error I had a while back! I cleaned the contacts on both the printer and cartridge with isopropyl alcohol, though nothing happened.
//The error in question after a power cycle. It shows up as a PSC 1310, but it is indeed a PSC 1315.
//Black ink levels do not show up.
Sadly, this is a VERY old printer (from 2004 or so), so there's no firmware updates to attempt a fix. I tried checking for cartridge protection options, those don't exist from what I can tell. The cartridge still has enough ink left to print, but I can't use it! 😕
Is there a way to do a bypass this? I'd try custom firmware options or to attempt to open it up, though I want to keep using this, it can print at really high DPI, unlike most modern home printers I tried before.

@b108sy, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I see that the black ink cartridge is not working. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.
Check if the ink cartridges are properly inserted in the printer, you may refer to - Replace HP inkjet printer cartridges
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Ink cartridge error
Insert the old ink cartridge and check for the error. If no error, then the new one is defective
If the error persists with 2 different ink cartridges, it could be an issue with the printer.

Hello, thanks for reaching out! Sadly, I don't have the old B/W print cartridge anymore, I threw it out. When it comes to reaching out to technical support? I don't expect much anymore, because this printer is 17 years old… Do you expect for HP to still care for older consumer models? I'm currently holding onto it for its scanner functionality, but I do want to bypass the cartridge check that the firmware does on startup.
