My HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer notified me of depleted yellow ink, while the other colors were non empty. I immediately replaced with a genuine HP cartridge without printing a thing. When it loaded, all inks showed some filled level. However, as soon as the printer did it's little new cartridge "fart", it informed me that my Cyan cartridge was now depleted of ink. Shady....I immediately replaced with a genuine HP cartridge without printing a thing. When it loaded, all inks showed some filled level. However, as soon as the printer did it's little new cartridge "fart", it informed me that my Cyan cartridge was now depleted of ink. So I immediately replaced with a genuine HP cartridge without printing a thing. When loaded, all inks showed some filled level. However, as soon as the printer did it's little new cartridge "fart", .......give you one guess.........it informed me that my Magenta was now depleted of ink........This feels like a sick joke. I should have listened to others experiences with HP and inkjets. If all three were actually out of ink, I would have bought the triple pack.
It looks like a nearly identical thing happened to a user last year. Can anyone relate to this? Am I going crazy here? I know that the levels are "estimates" but it is very confident when the cartridges are "depleted."
Regards,
Chris

Hi @TomFoolery808,
I'd like to help!
Let's try a power reset on the printer
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Could you print and share the printer status report ?
-
Load plain white paper in the input tray.
-
From the home screen on the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Reports.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Status Report.
The printer prints the report.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Not an uncommon experience, but a little explanation might clear things up. Typically most users are going to consume colors at about the same rate. The exception would be someone with a logo or commonly printed document that contains a high coverage of a particular color. So for the average user, most colors are going to run out around the same time. So your first color runs out, you install it, the printer runs through the setup and head cleaning and the ink used is just enough to tip another color into depleted status. I always recommend the tri color packs to customer for this reason, if you do not need the other colors today you will by the end of the week in most cases.

Jay,
I performed the reset steps and I think the predictable happened when trying to print the report. For some reason, the picture is not displaying in preview mode or upon post. The error message says 'Depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing." With a white M in a magenta circle.
