"Older generation cartridge" error

Despite using a geniune HP cartridge purchased at Costco, which I have used in the past, and getting a "compatible" message initially, the printer then gives an error code of "older generation cartridge." Have tried all the fixes given online.

Check the date on the cartridge(s)  --

The cartridge might be expired as explained in the document.

From your description of the messages, that is how I interpret the result.

Our community does not have a way to bypass, change, or force the cartridge to be accepted.

Depending on Costco's policy, they would perhaps let you return the outdated cartridge(s).
