I have an HP Officejet pro 8710.  I put in new cartridges and getting an error on the yellow cartridge:

"Supply System Problem"  There is a problem with the supply system.  Try replacing the affected cartridge with a different, non-empty cartridge.  If message reappears again, record...."

Failed fixes:

I've tried another brand new HP yellow cartridge.  Removed all cartridges, hard reset, reinstall cartridges.

Wiggling the printer cartridge carriage with the lever up.

Gently wiping the gold bits on the printer heads and cartridges.

All firmware and software is on automatic updates.

No warranty left.  What can I do to fix this please?

Thank you, Kim

@kimford, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

The “Supply System Problem” error typically indicates an issue with ink delivery or cartridge recognition. Since you've already tried replacing the yellow cartridge, cleaning contacts, and performing a hard reset, here are some additional steps that may help resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Vent and Contacts

Sometimes glue residue or debris on the cartridge vent can cause this error.

  • Remove the yellow cartridge.
  • Inspect the vent area (small circular hole on top). If blocked, gently clean it using a pin or paperclip.
  • Clean the gold contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Reseat the Printhead

If your printer has a carriage latch, reseating the printhead may help:

  • Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Lift the latch, gently lift the printhead, then reseat it.
  • Wiggle it slightly left and right, then lower the latch until it locks.
  • Repeat this process up to three times if the error persists.

Try a Full Power Reset

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
