Hi @Aari9090,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration; it’s never pleasant when a firmware update disrupts your ability to use compatible cartridges with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968. Here’s the HP stance and the reasoning behind it:

Why Your Non-HP Cartridge Is Blocked

HP devices like your 6968 include a Dynamic Security feature, introduced to protect printer performance, reliability, and security. It blocks third-party cartridges lacking HP’s proprietary chip, even if they fit fine, unless they’re recognized as genuine HP supplies.

Why can’t HP release an Update to Undo This

  • Permanent Feature: Once the firmware update activates Dynamic Security, it becomes a permanent part of the printer’s system.

  • Downgrades Not Supported: HP does not allow rolling back firmware to disable this feature.

  • Quality & Security Safeguards: This policy helps protect intellectual property, maintain consistent print quality, and ensure that your printer runs as expected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
