Hi @stb5149,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering continuous error messages regarding a new ink cartridge on your HP printer. It likely indicates an issue with installation or cartridge recognition. Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve this:

Remove and Inspect the Cartridge:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Carefully remove the cartridge. Avoid touching the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzle.
  • Inspect the cartridge for any protective tape still attached. If present, remove it carefully.

Reseat the Cartridge:

  • Reinsert the cartridge into the appropriate slot. Ensure it clicks into place.
  • Check that the cartridge is installed in the correct position based on its color designation.

Check for Compatibility:

  • Verify that the cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, the installation of an incompatible cartridge can cause errors.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or glasses cleaning wipe to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge. This can help resolve any minor connectivity issues.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP cartridges may cause recognition issues or triggering of error messages.

Printer Settings and Firmware:

  • Check if there is any firmware update available for your printer that can resolve recognition issues. Visit Official HP® Support for firmware updates.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Jerry, thanks for your suggestions.  I have tried all of your recommended solutions with no success.  The printer is out of warranty.  I have "punted" and bought a new printer.  Thanks for your help.  Take care.
