A few days ago my Officejet Pro 9010e showed a message that empty cartridges had to be replaced, and indicated it was the yellow cartridge. So, I ordered a new yellow cartridge and installed it. Right after installation, without printing anything, I got the same message again, now indicating I had to replace the cyan cartridge. So, I ordered a new cyan cartridge. Right after installation, I got the same message again, now indicating I had to replace the red cartridge. I have two questions:
- why didn't the printer indicate right away all three cartridges had to be replaced? This would have saved me a lot of hassle and shipping costs.
- it seems very unlikely all 3 color cartridges are empty at exactly the same time. Therefore I don't really trust the fact that they're all empty. Could this indicate a software bug or other problem with the printer (it's only 6 months old).

Hi @hndvrs,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Please follow the steps listed below to clean the cartridge contacts.
1. Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
2. Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message from the carriage.
3. Wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
4. Reinstall the cartridge.
5. Repeat these steps for any other cartridges indicated in the error message.
6. Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area.

I hope this works.
